Scripture

God’s Word is first and foremost Jesus Christ. Scripture is the written witness to that living Word.

Because Jesus Christ is God’s fullest revelation, we read Scripture in the light of his life, teaching, death, and resurrection. Jesus is the one through whom we come to know the character and purposes of God.

We recognize that Scripture contains passages of extraordinary beauty and wisdom, as well as passages that are difficult and troubling. Yet our trust rests not in the human words themselves, but in the God who chooses to speak through them.

We never know in advance how God will speak to us through Scripture. So we return to it again and again, listening for what God may be saying to us today.

Although we read Scripture individually, we also listen together as a community, seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit and practicing humility about our own interpretations.
